How David Allen Gets Things Done – Episode 04

Watch in HD

It’s been a while but I hope this makes the wait worth it. Here David Allen (author of Getting Things Done) shows us around his office. Let’s just say the man practices what he preaches.

You’ll see his capture tools, in-basket, tickler file, and a few tips sprinkled in.

Tools you see in the episode:

David Allen Collection Stacking Tray, David Allen Collection: Standing File Rack and File Folders, GTD System File Folders, GTD Tickler File, NoteTaker Wallet,

Obviously David Allen would use tools from the David Allen Collection. Here are some lesser expensive alternatives:

Moleskine Ruled Pocket Notebook

Mesh Paper Stacking Tray

Pendaflex Daily desk file/sorter

Getting Things Done Book

I love it how he tosses everything around.

Shock! Horror! Did I see him take something out of his inbox, and then put it back in again? “Never back in”!

Looking forward to the film…

For implementing GTD you can use this web-based application:

http://www.Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A mobile version is available too.

Damn you Merlin Mann! Not only has this You 2.0 project meant the effective end of the ‘you look nice today’ podcasts, but somehow our beloved Gina was also swept into your Charybdian grasp, reducing the daily level of signal to noise on lifehacker to sub-basement levels.

I suppose if this keeps Leo occupied for a while it can’t be all bad – it may give the rest of us a chance to say something for a change.

Private note to Gina – don’t trust that Merlin fellow, he has a long history of one-offs and half finished projects. As soon as something else shiny falls into his field of vision I guarantee he’ll disappear faster than a warner bros. music track off YouTube.

I’ve been halfway through reading his book for about two years now. I would love to have the book in video form!
